Leena Desai is a Managing Associate in the Mumbai Office of the Firm and is a key member of the Firm’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Team. Her practice focuses on a range of contentious & non-contentious IPR matters in the areas of trademark, copyright, industrial designs, domain names and Internet.
Leena has extensive experience in advising clients on matters including IP portfolio management, trademark availability search and clearance opinions, registration, enforcement, domain name dispute matters, drafting and negotiating agreements related to IPR, IP licenses, IP assignments, drafting of cease & desist notices, infringement suits, and all aspects of brand protection. She has also assisted clients with IPR aspects in corporate transactions, including strategic alliances, joint ventures and mergers & acquisitions.
Leena has experience in assisting clients across industries including consumer electronics, food, automobiles, telecommunications, entertainment, FMCG, pharmaceuticals, publication, hospitality, apparel, e-commerce and real estate, in acquisition, enforcement, and protection of their intellectual property.
Leena regularly appears before the Trademark Marks Registry (for oppositions, cancellations, review and appeal matters) and has briefed counsels on various trademark and copyright infringement suits. In addition, Leena also has experience in counselling clients on domain name disputes. She has significant experience handling domain name proceedings under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) and other similar proceedings before a host of different arbitration forums such as National Internet eXchange of India (NIXI).
